5 Weeks Old!

Olivia is 5 weeks old! I know she is still so little, but almost 6 weeks seems so big in 1st time Mommy eyes :).

I'm a little lost on what exactly to blog about now that I don't have the weekly milestones or weekly survey to fill out. So I'm sure this will now be a hodge-podge of all things Olivia, I'm sure you won't mind ;).

These last 5 weeks have been a whirl-wind. I feel like it's been a lot longer than 5 weeks. The 1st few weeks are a complete blur, and I have blocked out her 1st week almost completely! Probably a little bit of sleep deprivation + the brain working its magic so people have more than one child, haha.
She really is a pretty good baby though. She's not too fussy, we can usually calm her relatively quickly when she cries. She does get a little gassy, but nothing a little "ants go marching 1 by 1" leg pumping can't cure usually...and then there's Gripe Water if that doesn't work.
I've had to cut dairy from my diet. That really helps with the gas and the #1 symptom, which was stuffiness. She would wake up stuffy every AM. So the ped recommending cutting diary - and it went away when I did so. It is a SUPER hard adjustment. Sometimes I'll eat something with diary and then think "oh crap! that had dairy in it", just because I used to eat so much of it. But I'm getting better and so is she! :)

Her eyes have turned from a dark deep blue/grey to a dark blue. They seem to be getting lighter and more blue. My little blue-eyed babe! I always wanted blue eyes when I was little, so I'm kind of excited for the blue eyes. She's also starting to be able to look us in the eye. She is focusing a lot more. Bron and I are pretty sure she smiled at us on purpose for the 1st time yesterday and at Bron today. We'll have to see if it keeps happening to know for sure though.

Breast feeding is going well. I think it will continue to change and we will constantly keep learning new things, but for the most part we have a groove going. She was fed her 1st bottle at 3 weeks.
She is giving me 3-4 hour stretches of sleep during the night. We have a good bedtime routine which helps her know it's bedtime. I'm hoping over the next week she will start to sleep a little longer at night...from what I've heard about the 6 week mark, I think it's a pretty reasonably wish ;).

I hear her stirring in her crib, so that will be all for now. I will just leave you with a few slew of pics taken with my phone from her 1st two weeks!!

Sleepy parents able to cuddle on the couch again with that big ol' belly outta the way ;)

She's Here!

I was waiting my whole last trimester to write this post! :)

Olivia Jane Butrimas was born Sunday, November 25th at 7:35 PM! She was 7 lbs, 10 oz and 20 inches long.

My water ended up breaking at 7:25 AM on the 25th (yep, exactly 12 hours of labor!). So we had to go in to L&D pretty quickly-even though I tired getting more time from the DR on the phone. I was so excited when it broke. I couldn't stop laughing & smiling-haha! Bron was excited and nervous, getting all the loose ends tied together and putting the finishing touches on our hospital bags. After 3-4 phone calls and more water gushes I finally threw on my robe and got in the car.
On our tour of the hospital the nurse told us to make sure we check in by the clock...so all the way to the hospital I was thinking "go to the clock". Well, there was no one at the clock desk, so I had to go to the emergency room. When I told them I was supposed to check in at the clock and that my water broke, they both gave each other funny looks. Maybe I got the clock part wrong? I'm not sure, but I thought I was doing so good remembering and the nurse who wheeled me up to triage said she'd never heard of this "clock check-in" lol.

So once we were settled in our room the nurse came in with the IV and fluids. This immediately put my red flag up because if you have an IV you can't walk around and walking around was key, in my mind, for this natural labor. She assured me that they would just give me one bag-unless I need the pitocin, which she also said the DR told her to start soon. So I asked that they wait as long as possible for the pitocin.
Before we knew it Bron got a text "I'm here!"

I didn't even know she was coming yet! Bestest BFF ever...just sayin'. Mom was on her way too...I was just hoping I would not have the baby before she got there. But I wasn't having contractions yet so, I was pretty confident Olivia would wait for Grandma! So, as I just said, I was not contracting on my own which. I had always heard that if your water breaks they will only give you 24 hours to go into labor naturally. Well, I guess my doctor didn't even want to give me 4 hours...because the nurse brought on the pitocin (& so it begins..). I did ask her one more time to delay the pitocin, which is when she told me my doctor could see everything she does & that she would get into trouble if she didn't start it - I thought that was pretty funny, actually. So now, I'm hooked up to fluids & pitocin...my vision for a natural labor was slowly slipping away and visions of c-sections were dancing in my head. (If you've ever seen anything on natural birth vs. c-section you'd know that induction=pitocin, pitocin=epidural and epidural=c-section...it's just...law.) As my contractions started more guests arrived, Teresa, Kelly, Nash & Brock.
The nurse came in a few times to re-position the fetal heart monitor and the contraction monitor (both on my belly) because every time I would move (due to the contractions become stronger & closer together) the monitors stopped picking up what they were supposed to. At about 1 or 2 PM the contractions started getting super painful. I was trying my best to breath through them, but to no avail. I tried getting in the rocker to labor a little bit, but I only lasted about 2 contractions and my whole body started shaking with each contraction. I soon started to feel like I was losing control and they were taking over. I was tensing up and dreading them each time they started. Bron was by my side for each and I would lean into him for support. Finally, I couldn't take it anymore and asked for the epidural. I received the epidural (while screaming scared) around 2:30/3:00. I felt immediate relief..."like heaven", I believe were my exact words. Right before I got the epi, mom got there! So after it was put in I had her come in-and of course we had a tearful moment-haha.

I was very fearful that the epidural would lower Olivia's heart rate and slow down my progress. However, my little girl did just fine and I progressed just fine. I was at 5 cm when they put it in and progressed to 10 cm just two hours later. At about 5:00 PM it was time to push!! I'm not sure exactly when they figured out she was faced wrong but, she was face up and to the right instead of face down. So it was a very difficult road through the canal for baby (and me)! Plus, with the epidural I had a hard time feeling where or how I was pushing and what kind of progress it was making. At the very end the epi started wearing off and I was able to feel what I was doing, and made more progress with each push. It was that and the doctor's threat to throw me in the OR in 20 minutes that really got her out ;). I did need oxygen at some points during pushing because her heart rate dropped slightly...plus it really helped a lot after the 3 pushes to catch my breath. I also had to use the barf bag at some point during my 2 1/2 hour pushing session :).
My DR asked if I wanted to feel her head coming out and I declined. I just wanted her OUT! Finally, when I saw her head come out I gave 110% more to get the rest of that little body OUT OF ME! Haha! It was the hardest thing I have ever done.

And yes, the Jaguars did win on her birthday ;)

It's amazing the little details you forget over time. It's also amazing how you really do forget all the bad and all the pain after a little while. It will be 3 weeks tomorrow and I already have forgotten every single negative feeling I felt after the hard delivery. (Well, besides the part where I know I really strongly felt I never want to do it again.)
We had lots of visitors during her delivery and after she was born. The hospital staff kept saying how many people were waiting on her and the "party" that was happening for Olivia outside :).

Right before we were discharged and peaced out!!

Happy birthday, Olivia!!

37 weeks & 38 weeks!

Written on Monday, November 19th...

37 weeks

Well, well, well. My intro to Drs don't know everything, huh? I mean, when a doctor looks at you and says "expect labor at any time" and then proceeds to tell you what to watch for, you kinda think you're going to go into labor the next...second, and every second thereafter. Well, that bubble finally burst at my last appointment (last Thursday) when [a different] doctor tells me I will probably go to my EDD, if not longer, since I am a 1st timer. So, I have really tried to let things just GO! Obviously no one knows, it will happen when it happens. Which at almost 38 weeks is a REALLY hard thing to swallow, for me anyway.

So, here we are. Still pregnant. I'm trying to enjoy it though.

At 37 weeks they have baby measuring at approximately 6.5 pounds and 19 inches...about the size of a watermelon, apparently. However that trusty doctor who poked at the baby a few dozen times last Thursday gave her medical opinion of 7lbs...8lbs at birth (is the sarcasm coming through? no I'm not bitter...lol just pregnant ;)).

My dad got into town this past week. So family dinner last Friday at my sister's was fun! We are at 6 days & counting until the arrival of my little nephew Weedon! Jenny is having a C on Monday, November 26th, yeah! Cousins will be VERY close in age! :) It's going to be a blast!

Other good/exciting news:
This week I started to work from home 1/2 days. Last week was really hard, I wasn't feeling good for most of it. So I decided to try to give myself a break. I work in the office in the AM and work from home after lunch. It's a pretty sweet deal, and I'm super lucky to have this kind of flexibility at my job!

Everything is done. The hospital bags are packed; mine, baby's and Bron's.

Nesting took place last Sunday. From about 11AM - 8PM with a few breaks in-between for meals. It was a little out of control. I look back and have no clue how I had enough energy to do everything I did. I mean, this involved bringing in the ladder from the garage, hammer, dusting ceiling fans, detailing the kitchen cabinets and counters, on top of all of my regular cleaning AND laundry. Holy molly  I'm tired just typing that and re-living it. I paid for it the next day though...and last night. My back was so sore! Silly pregnant hormones!

38 weeks

I guess I never went back to publish the post for 37 weeks :) so I will combine the two, what the heck!

Today is Thanksgiving Day and I'm officially 38 weeks pregnant. The measurements are the same, since I just checked a few days ago.
The doctor did do the "feel-ski" check again yesterday and said "this peanut is not going to be a peanut". So I'm guessing she is sticking firm to her 8 pounds at delivery ;). She said this belly is all baby. Kinda sucks for me. I'll be sure to let you know how that goes - haha! She also said I am probably good for another week. I'm not a very patient person and I have never been good at waiting. So I sure hope she decides to come out sooner...than later!!!!  :)

How far along? 38 weeks today!
Total weight gain: I think I'm up 31 pounds now!
Stretch marks? none yet!
Sleep: Is a joke...which I hear continues once the baby comes...only from a few people though ;) HAH.
Best moment this week: Today was pretty awesome! We went to my sisters for Thanksgiving and it was YUMMY!! Great to spend the day with them!

Miss Anything? Today I missed being able to have a beer. I could have definitely gone for a few Blue Moons to celebrate Turkey Day!
Movement: Slow rolls and an elbow or a foot here & there
Food cravings: Hmm...different things. Nothing consistant this week.
Gender: Girl
Labor Signs: Most all "labor signs" I've had or have.
Symptoms: Just very uncomfortable. She's heavy and low. So this causes back pain, pelvic pain and just makes it hard to move around in general.
Belly Button in or out? In/flat
Wedding rings on or off? Put my engagement ring back on for the week :) Actually, both of my rings fit well last Saturday, but that's pushing it & I definitely don't want them to get stuck!

Happy or Moody most of the time: Kinda both. I'm really happy that she's almost here and really excited to meet her, but I'm also REALLY irritable. At least it goes away fast ;).
Looking forward to: Going into labor...sounds silly, but I am :) It's basically all I can think of at this point!

36 weeks!

Hello!

This could be my last pregnant post...woah, haha! If you didn't see, I was informed at my last appointment that I am well on my way to labor and should be watching for it "at any time now". So this could be literally...anytime, two hours, two days, two weeks, or twenty-five days.
So this put a little fire in me this weekend to get all the last minute things done.
We have the nursery complete and I'm packing our hospital bags tonight. After that it's literally just the waiting game, huh?

At 36 weeks she's about the size of a crenshaw melon (6lbs) and about 19 inches.
crenshaw melon

 36 weeks belly shot

Front View

 Feeling very large...this was yesterday

How far along? 36 weeks 4 days
Total weight gain: 28 lbs
Stretch marks? none yet
Sleep: same
Best moment this week: Even though it was a scary appointment, it was exciting to know I've already dilated & baby & body are getting ready for labor!!

Miss Anything? I miss it all :)
Movement: She's still active, just not as much.
Food cravings: JUNK :/ It's a good thing I eat well during the week because I seem to give myself a free pass on the weekends. And I pay for it!
Gender: Girl
Labor Signs: The usual...contractions & cramping
Symptoms: Uncomfortable
Belly Button in or out? In/flat
Wedding rings on or off? Off...I could still wear my engagement ring, it's not that it doesn't fit...I just haven't worn it. I think because my hands are so dry, I just like having them bare.

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy...hormones have been a little out of whack this weekend...but happy.
Looking forward to: Meeting this little baby!!

And finally, here are some of Olivia's nursery photos!!

(sorry, not the best lighting or quality, but you'll get the idea!)

The fabric used in the pillow that is on the glider in the next photo is the same fabric used on the valence pictured here. I realize it's hard to see here.

Rebecca painted this picture for Olivia! We do still have to get a side table to put this lamp on. We have it picked out, it's currently out of stock at Target..

My sister, Jenny, made the mobile for Olivia!

The awesome quilt my mother-in-law, Teresa made Olivia is on the crib!

I hope you liked your little tour of Olivia Jane's room! I am in LOVE with it and am so happy with the way it turned out!

33, 34 & 35 weeks

Well, well, well. Someone got a little behind! I actually kinda of stalled with everything. But, I'm back in the game! ;)

I've been super busy with work so when I get home I'm just ready to crash. We did make it to the park again this past week. It was fun. I love this weather, so it's really nice to be able to go enjoy it with my husband. I am trying to be a little obsessive about spending time together, because of my fear of not getting enough husband & wife time after the baby comes. But I think if I'm this committed to it before she comes, I'll definitely make time when she is here. Plus, I know we have some great family babysitters that will have no problem keeping Liv when we're ready for date nights :).

We did some shopping the other weekend. We took back some things that were duplicates & some clothing items that I thought she had too much of. So I think she has everything (probably way more so!) that she needs. I have a little more organizing to do in her nursery before I post completion pictures.

I now just have the loose ends to tie up....hospital bag, labor bag, birth plan, car seat and nursing things for me.

Size of baby:
33 - Pineapple, 4lbs, 17in
34 - Cantaloupe, 4.5lbs, 17.5in
35 - Honeydew, 5lbs, 18in

Mmmm...fruit!  Wow, do you really think I have a 5 pounder in me right now?! Crazy to think about!

Oh & I almost forgot, I think I posted this on Facebook, but at my last appointment I got a little peek at her! The Dr turned on the u/s machine real quick to make she she was head down. She sure was! So I got to see her cute little face for...maybe 1 whole minute, haha! But I swear she has this cute little button nose and has definitely gotten bigger!! :D

How far along? 35 weeks 4 days
Total weight gain: 28 lbs. gained at my 34 week appointment - right on track!
Stretch marks? none yet, I'm hoping I may be in the clear? (Should I even say that out loud?)
Sleep: Hmm...sleep. That depends on your definition of sleep. I believe my body is just adjusting to the lack-of now.
Best moment this week: Yesterday was pretty sweet. My in-laws gave Liv and I her glider for Christmas!! So they came over & DIL put it together for me. I also enjoyed cleaning the house & having the house to myself for the afternoon.
Miss Anything? Bending down, the ease of moving in bed or just getting up in general. Oh and breathing...
Movement: She's not moving as much as she was a few weeks ago. I guess she's getting a little big for the space she has in there. Still giving me swift kicks in the side like a soccer star, but not so much the moving 10xs in an hour kinda thing.
Food cravings: I've been eating a lot of candy this week - tis the season - and still craving ice!!
Gender: Girl

Labor Signs: Body is practicing
Symptoms: Still have heartburn, although not as bad. Starting to swell a little. My feet and ankles swelled for the 1st time Friday night after dinner. And of course, just having a huge belly that is heavy and super inconvenient :)
Belly Button in or out? In/flat
Wedding rings on or off? I only put my engagement ring on when I leave the house. It comes off before bed & I don't wear it around the house.

Happy or Moody most of the time: Not so much moody anymore. More excited and happy for her to come.
Looking forward to: The end of this pregnancy! I enjoyed most parts, but this last part is harder to chew. I'm really just ready to see what she looks like and hold her in my arms.

33 weeks

34 weeks

I need to do another compare shot in my blue tank & black shorts. I will try to get that pic today & post tonight or later this week. We're off to the Jags game today!!

33 weeks EVE

I am just in the nick of time, I'm still 32 weeks :) 33 weeks tomorrow!

(WARNING: probably longest post yet & LOTS of pictures!)

Baby is the size of a...wait for it...large jicama. I will give you a quarter if you can tell me what a jicama is without looking it up!! Now, lemme go look it up...(insert elevator music here)...a large bulbus root veggie. Interesting. Approx. 16.7 inches & 3.75lbs

This last week has been filled with LOTS of events. Last Friday I had a DR appointment. Mom was in town for the shower so she got to go and hear Liv's heartbeat again, which is always sweet. The doc felt the belly & said it feels like she is in position (head down). I have two more appointments (within the next 3 weeks) and then it's weekly appointments until birth.

Saturday, baby shower day, was nothing short of amazing. Erica and Sarah put together such a beautiful event! They really did think of everything. I can't put into words how much I appreciate all of your hard work and all of the love that went into planning Olivia's shower. On top of that, I just felt so loved & blessed for everyone that attended and all the wonderful gifts we received. THANK YOU to all!! xoxo

The weekend flew by, but it was really great having all our family and friends around and just celebrating the miracle in my belly!

This week Bron and I are trying not to get too sick and have been taking it easy. I did manage to take down all of the decorations yesterday after work (minus the banner in the dining room. What? Erica requested it say up ;) I will probably disassemble this weekend). Speaking of this weekend...I have GOT to clean up this baby's room! I moved all of the gifts into her room and have not even unpacked them from the bags they came in yet. Work has also requested I go through and update my registry. They are throwing me a shower next Thursday (woo-hoo!) and usually buy one big thing along with some little things, so she wants to know which things we need the most. Then Bron and I have to decide what we're going to buy & what can hold off a little bit (like maybe the jogging stroller?). Also on the to-do list....labor bag, hospital bag, pediatrician interviews, and I'm sure other things this pregger night time brain can't think of at this time.

Here are a few pics from the shower:

(Decor...)
Can you see the rubber duckys in the punch? ;)

That little elephant was filled with "advice cards" from all our guests! :)

A few guest pics!

Momma & I <3

My sister and I and the butterfly mobile she made Olivia!

An "after" pic...me in my pjs, but we never got a pic together so Erica took one before bed :)

Everyone putting "mama" to bed :)

So, one of the surprises I was keeping from you all was the fact that Olivia does have a middle name. Her middle name is Jane, which is my mom's middle name. We wanted to honor my mom by naming Olivia after her. For the shower I made mom a picture frame as a gift:

Before she had a chance to open it I was starting to cry...it was a special moment.

Not too much longer to go!! Before you know it you will be reading "SHE'S HERE!!" gahhhh!!!!

How far along? 32 weeks 7 days
Total weight gain: 27 lbs
Stretch marks? No
Sleep: Same as the past few weeks. Wake up as tired as ever. We've hit a new point though...1st night hubby slept in the guest room due to prego/sick snoring!!
Best moment this week:
The baby shower, for sure!
Miss Anything? My family! They were just here but it felt like such a whirlwind with so many people all together at one time!
Movement: Hiccups & limbs trying to poke through the skin!
Food cravings: WATER and ICE! I have been seriously craving water and chewing ice like it is my job. I think my thirst increase is from being sick. But I love to chew that ice! (Hemoglobin is right on track, no worries.) Also, peppermint.  I crave brushing my teeth at night to taste the scope peppermint & have to have Orbit peppermint gum in my purse! Strange, strange cravings this past week!
Gender: Girl
Labor Signs: BH. I'm waiting for the nesting to come back. I had a little with my energy burst in the 2nd trimester but it went away when the fatigue of the 3rd trimester set in :/
Symptoms: The heartburn has actually died down a little. It comes at night sometimes but nothing 1 tums can't fix. It's been a few days since I reached for my Zantac. Other than that, my pelvis is starting to ache and it's causing the...waddle... Oh and my face is getting more round. I don't like having a pregnant face :(
Belly Button in or out? In!
Wedding rings on or off? On

Happy or Moody most of the time: Pretty happy lately!
Looking forward to: This weekend. Getting organized again...in the nursery and getting ready for baby in general.

31 weeks!

31.4 weeks
8 weeks & 4 days
60 days
...just a few ways to count! ;)

Baby is said to be the weight of 4 naval oranges this week (3.3lbs) and about the size of a head of lettuce (18 inches). I say she feels like a sack of potatoes and a little alien trying to escape through the skin of my stomach! She's getting a lot stronger, that's for sure!

I added a few details to Olivia's room this weekend. I finished her yarn letters, added an initial frame above the crib, hung her chalk board and curtain. Hmm when I say I...I mean Bron...Bron hung the frame, chalkboard and curtain :) I'm going to wait until next week to post pictures so those of you coming to the house on Saturday will see it in person 1st!!

This week will be filled with cleaning and getting little details down surrounding the nursery and food for the baby shower. I am beyond thrilled for the baby shower on Saturday! I can't wait to see everyone!

How far along? 31 weeks 4 days
Total weight gain: 28lbs
Stretch marks? Nope - have the line though, above & below the belly button.
Sleep: Still feeling like I'm not really sleeping while asleep. I'm sure that will continue!
Best moment this week: This week had been a little bit of a blur honestly  I think it's because I've just been so tired! It was definitely not when the plumber was here unclogging and re-piping the kitchen on Saturday, I can tell you that! At least it's out of the way before she gets here!!

Miss Anything? Being able to bend, get up out of a chair or bed without grunting, and doing simple tasks - like walking to the car - without being out of breath...just sayin'...
Food cravings: Candy! :)
Anything making you queasy or sick: I think we'll just say meat for the entire pregnancy & call it a day. Mostly lunch meat!
Gender: Girl

Labor Signs: Just my friend, BH. They are a getting a bit more uncomfortable though. I'm just glad that ol' U muscle is practicing!
Symptoms: Same as last week!
Belly Button in or out? Getting a bit flatter!
Wedding rings on or off? Wearing only the engagement ring again this week.

Happy or Moody most of the time: Both
Looking forward to: The baby shower on Saturday!!!!

30 weeks!

Alright! 30 weeks! Feels like another milestone even though I have anywhere from 7 - 12 weeks still to go. But there is something about that one digit "7" that makes it seem a lot shorter :)

This week it says she is about the size of a head of lettuce.

I got the wonderful phone call on Wednesday morning telling me that I PASSED MY 3 HOUR GLUCOSE TEST! What a relief! Now I just have to make sure I don't gain over my goal weight (35 lbs)...which is going pretty well!

We got a few more things done this past weekend. Bron reorganized the garage, it looks great! So roomy! We also got a few accessories for Olivia's room. We put a tree over her crib (below) and I got some paper mache letters to spell Liv (below) which I am wrapping in yarn. They are going to stand on her hutch. To the left of the tree we are going to put a frame with a monogram or just an "O". I also ordered the material for the valance Teresa is going to make her. It's all coming together :).

(I find it necessary to let you know that lamp is not staying...)

(Only have the "L" done for now...)

How far along? 30 weeks 5 days
Total weight gain: 27 lbs
Stretch marks? No
Sleep: Getting real rough in this department! I wake up in the morning only to feel like I've gotten no rest at all. Feeling like you've pulled an all-nighter, minus the fun?! Not fair!
Best moment this week: Hubby & I went on another date this weekend to see Finding Nemo 3D...dorks yes but lover bff dorks=my fav <3

Miss Anything? Being comfortable. I can't really breath anymore...sit anymore...lay anymore...haha it's just all around uncomfortable!
Movement: Still a mover & a shaker...& a hiccup-er :)
Food cravings: This week it's been everything bad for you (think brownies with chocolate syrup & ice cream and TACO BELL!) I think it was because I was being so "health conscience" with not knowing if I had GD or not that I just wanted to splurge a little after. But back on the health train...gotta keep those lbs down ;)
Anything making you queasy or sick: Lunch meat have been taking peanut butter sandwiches to work instead.
Gender: Girl

Labor Signs: Had a few BH today...they've really slowed down though.
Symptoms: Tired, achy, stomach & lungs squished together...& our favorite friend, heartburn.
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? Engagement ring on...must have a little more water weight this week b/c the combo is back to being too tight.

Happy or Moody most of the time: Getting a lot more moody in-between my happy spells. Hoping more walks in the park will help this :)
Looking forward to: Going shopping for my shower dress this weekend with Jenny!

I leave you with a couple bump shots from this past week...

(This is from today...is it just me or has the belly dropped a bit?)

(This is from last week when Bron & I hit up the park for a walk (me & Bentley)/run (Bron)...)
